CosmoMoose is my electronic and cinematic music project. My original intention was to create electronic dance music, and the first tunes I recorded were Shooting Stars, JiGiToN, Get Funky and Cosmic Invasion. You could say it was the result of a mid-life crisis but in reality the music I made sounded rather ‘retro’ in nature as I was often linking back to my own youth from the 1980s. The melodies and textures I created gained many fans who often responded to the emotional and expressive nature that my music brought. Therefore, in being true to myself, music of CosmoMoose is all about musical adventure; taking the listener on a cinematic journey to somewhere they have never been before, whether a distant world or the other side of their own planet. It is often very melodic and always has a strong theme as I like to create music with a specific purpose in mind, whether to paint a picture, convey and emotion or take you on a journey. It's EM for those who don't like EM :-) I hope you enjoy this listening experience browsing the array of music from the world of CosmoMoose… .. On this page you will find information on…

Released 21 November 2018 In early 2016 I was asked by game designer, Glen Chudley, to compose a soundtrack to a computer game based on a fantasy adventure book Slaves of the Abyss. This is one of those books where you are the hero of the story and you decide what to do next on your quest. I couldn't get the rights to use the book's name (which may not have been a suitable album title anyway) in the album so decided on the name ABYSSIUM. Each track on this album represents a scene from the game. the tracks were composed based on Glen's descriptions and before the game was fully developed. I liked all the themes so much that I wanted to release them .... on two albums. Glen gave me specific directions on what music he wanted in each scene in the 'quotes' below: KALLAMEHR 'Should create the impression of a prosperous city. Arabian influence' ITER FORTISSIMUM (Latin for Journey of Courage) 'Should evoke the sense of travelling on a long journey of which the destination is not known' TEMPLE OF FOURGA 'Should sound stereotypically holy, but in a pretentious way. Fourga is the god of pride' ABANDONED VILLAGE 'A mix of sadness, mystery and danger' [I wanted an opera singer to vocalise that sadness in the second part] PATH OF RIDDLES 'Incongruous, completely juxtaposed to the mood of the rest of the game perhaps even a bit carnival/funfair like?' [I wanted to make it fun but slow paced as riddles aren’t solved quickly!] MYSTERIOUS FOREST 'As the name suggests, mysterious, though in a more positive and playful way than is typical of the rest of the game' [Glen then gave directions that there was a second forest scene which should be sadder] GURU REUNION [this scene was a late addition to the game where Glen wanted something peaceful but oriental] BESIEGED! 'Like Kallemehr , but slightly subdued. Should also hint in some way of an impending threat' [although this track started off like Kallamehr it took on a life of its own with more than a hint of threat!] OPEN THE ABYSS something a bit surreal [This is the opening title theme to the game even though it's at the end of the album. I thought it too strange to open the album and a nice way to close Chapter 1]. CALL TO BATTLE ‘A basic military drum beat, overlaid with other instruments to give the impression of a final showdown (actually turns out not to be, but oh well)’ ITER PERICULOSUM (Latin for Journey of Peril) ‘should be like [ITER FORTISSIMUM] (on Chapter I) but sounding more ominous” UNDERGROUND PASSAGES [Glen wanted something based on the Kallamehr theme from Chapter I but the action is happening in the sewers rather than in the City] HIDDEN TUNNEL ‘Mysterious, in a slightly surreal way. It is the first time the player enters the Abyss’ LOST IN THE ABYSS ‘Surreal and should give the impression of an endless barren expanse’ ORGAN PHANTASY NO.1 (CASTLE OF DOOM) 'Church organ music. Should suggest the massive size of the castle. (The Castle is basically designed for use by someone 50 feet tall)’ I plan this piece to be the first ORGAN PHANTASY in a series. SOUL CHAMBER – [Glen wanted something dark, surreal and disturbing] ESCAPE FROM THE ABYSS [This is the End theme] Something epic, suggesting exploring infinite new possibilities RECOLLECTION is a composition inspired by the game recalling many of the existing themes SONG OF THE SAVED is the only song with lyrics, sung from the point of view of those being saved. It is also deliberately an allegory to how Jesus gave His all to save us all. This song and all my music is made for God’s glory. Composed, Arranged, Produced, Performed, Mixed and Mastered by Chris Medway. Artwork by Chris Medway

Memories of Moosetopia

CD album £9
Released 30 November 2015 I created this to be a collection of images and for the ears, with strong catchy themes taking the listener back to when times were great, with a sense of longing. These are memories of Moosetopia. From the beautiful beaches to awesome cathedrals; from summer and winter celebrations to the sheer natural splendour. As soon as the CD starts then you are transported straight back to Moosetopia. Between the soaring SunRise and the ambient and reflective song My Beautiful Day is a collection of eclectic music, from euphoric dance to poignant ambient tracks, all taking you to a place and time of happy memories with a longing to return. This is electronic music at its most organic featuring several ‘real’ instruments taking the lead such as accordion, pipe organ, bamboo flute, bagpipes, jazz band, steel drums and piano bringing you the sounds of Moosetopia: that place where you would rather be. The melodic music soars and lifts the spirit but at the same time there are reflective tones harking back to days gone by. If you like the music of my heroes, Jean-Michel Jarre (Equinoxe, Chronologie) or Vangelis (Chariots of Fire, China) because of their melodies and variety of themes then I am sure you will love this album. With very few lyrics, the music sings for itself from the infectious vibrant Hola Havana to the haunting Distant Longing , or the funky jazz meets trance-synth of Get Funky to the pip-organ baroque meets techno of Organic Manoeuvre . Then there are the electro-folk stompers of JiGiToN and the Scottish styled Forever Hogmanay to the piano trance of Summer Memories. For those who liked the piano trance song Shooting Stars on my last release, there is the evocative Horse of Nature . Cosmic Invasion

CD album £9
Released 28 November 2013 I created this album to be a sci-fi "soundtrack for the mind", with strong catchy themes taking the listener on an hour-long musical journey where the Cosmic comes to Earth. It includes the popular Shooting Stars , the Jarre-like Laika Legacy plus the title track, Cosmic Invasion, with its Theremin style lead and robot voices. In contrast is the minimalist classical/piano style Ripples in the Sky and the melancholic but beautiful Tears of the Moon. It closes with the 11 minute opus inspired by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, Light of This World. This is what the reviewers say: "Absolutely Fantastic. Highly recommend this, whether you're a fan of Vangelis, Jean Michael Jarre, instrumentals, or science fiction style music. From the moment I first heard Galileo's Mission on the station I DJ for, I was hooked. Great tracks from start to finish. Well worth the price and look forward to future works from CosmoMoose." "Fantastic music and well composed, recommended" "Jean Michel Jarre Would Be Proud Of This Piece Of Work. An impressive album that edges towards the New-Age and Sci-Fi genres, also, a very strong Jean Michel Jarre influence with strings and choirs evident throughout. An excellent cross section of tracks from moody atmospheric tracks to dance tracks. Album highlights are, Cosmic Invasion, Shooting Stars, Tears Of The Moon, Lost Vessel and the stunning closing track Light Of This World which runs for just over 11 minutes! A breathtaking piece of work" "I love this album and .... listen to this every day and I will wear it out soon, then I will buy another one....because its a beautiful album....just beautiful." “The ability …..to take inspiration from different musical genres is really unbelievable and fantastic. Most surprisingly in Tears of the Moon ….while Galileo's Mission will bring to Your mind emotions which are typical of the “Rondò Veneziano” style. Great. This is a very promising “eclectic” artist, we shall keep an eye on in the near future.” Composed, Arranged, Produced & Performed by Chris Medway (CosmoMoose) Vocals on "RoboDrama" by Sharon Medway Sleeve Design: Chris Medway Album Photography: Sharon Medway Mixed and Mastered by Chris Medway at 9EQ Studios, Devon
Released 4 May 2020 Long ago in a studio far far away.. .. [well, last year in my home studio...] I was asked by director and actor Kiefer Jenkins to provide a soundtrack for his short Star Wars fan film Shadow of the Mandalorian . I was hesitant to take on the commission at first due to lack of confidence in providing the right orchestral sound. However, as I embarked on the project I really enjoyed creating the music and make it help carry the story (which I also really liked). I am very pleased with the end result, on the film and as a standalone listening experience. So, even if you never see the film, I hope that the music tells its own story: one of a battle between the dark side and the light side, and one of hope and redemption. The story and music of Shadow of the Mandalorian reminds me that even in dark times there is always hope. The darkness does not go on forever; the light always wins. See the Soundtrack part of this website for more information and to see the film.

Christmas singles

I’m a big lover of Christmas so it is only natural that I would create my own versions of favourite Christmas carols.
Released 8 June 2017 Ever since I was a child, I have wanted to do my own version of the Doctor Who theme. This recording therefore uses retro sounds I recall from the 1980s and so has similar instrumentation to my album "Cosmic Invasion" which in turn is inspired by Doctor Who and sci-fi in general. The second track features some rather unhappy Daleks! Both versions have been licensed for download distribution via Loudr.fm Original Composer Ron Grainer and original electronic arrangement by Delia Derbyshire These versions were Arranged, Produced and Performed by CosmoMoose Mixed and Mastered by Chris Medway (CosmoMoose) Artwork by Chris Medway, based on the ‘DW’ logo that was prevalent after the relaunch.
